Best known to viewers for his lead role as Captain Malcolm Reynolds in Joss Whedon's Firefly (executive-produced by Tim Minear), Nathan Fillion reprised the role in the feature film sequel Serenity. Now on the hit drama series Castle... Fillion can also be seen in the feature romantic comedy Waitress, opposite Keri Russell, and the supernatural thriller White Noise 2: The Light. Fillion also starred in the comedic horror film Slither and guest-starred on Lost.
Fillion's other feature credits include Saving Private Ryan, in which he portrayed the soldier misidentified as Private Ryan; the independent film Water's Edge, Blast from the Past, Dracula 2000 and Outing Riley. On television, Fillion earned an Emmy(R) nomination for his role on the daytime drama One Life to Live. His other television credits include the telefilm Ordeal in the Arctic, as well as roles on the series Two Guys and a Girl, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Pasadena and Miss Match.
A native of Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, Fillion wanted to be a high school teacher and studied at the University of Alberta. He later starred in productions at the Edmonton Fringe Festival and performed with comedy groups in town before moving on to pursue a career in New York and Los Angeles.
